PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Fat Graft: why PRP is added

What PRP is and what studies have reported.

01 What is PRP?

A small amount of your blood is drawn and centrifuged, and only the plasma rich in platelets is collected.

02 Growth factors in platelets

Platelets contain growth factors such as PDGF, VEGF and TGF-β, which are known to be involved in new blood vessel formation and tissue repair.

03 What studies report

Analyses pooling several studies report better graft take when PRP is added. Some studies found no difference, so results can vary.

04 Decided at consultation

Whether to use PRP, how much, and where to graft are decided after checking your condition. Results and recovery vary by person.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Fat Graft

Frequently asked questions about the PRP fat graft process and the scope of consultation.

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?

PRP is made by drawing a small amount of your own blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to collect only the plasma that is rich in platelets. Because it comes from your own blood, no donor tissue is used. Whether to combine it with a fat graft, and how much and how often, is decided at your consultation after checking your skin and volume, and results and recovery vary from person to person.

How is it different from a standard fat graft?

Harvesting, purifying and injecting the fat are the same. The difference is that PRP separated from your own blood is mixed into the fat and grafted with it. Whether to add PRP is decided at your consultation after checking the graft areas, volume and skin condition.

Can I consult about areas other than the face?

We also discuss volume concerns for the breasts and buttocks, not just the face. For areas that need a large volume, we look separately at whether to add PRP, and the areas and method actually applied are decided at your consultation.

Does adding PRP guarantee graft take?

No. Several studies report better graft take, but others found no difference. Graft take depends on your constitution, the area and aftercare, and if some fat is absorbed, additional grafting can be discussed.

Post-Surgery Precautions
